Grant-Making Focus Areas

The Jewish Women’s Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago has identified three areas that funding is needed to improve the lives of Jewish women and girls. Grant prospects are invited to submit project and program proposals that relate to these targeted areas.

  1. Economic Security/Legal Reform for Women and Girls:
    This subcommittee will review projects addressing the economic status of Jewish women and girls locally, nationally, and internationally. Although, each subcommittee will deal with issues of advocacy in their particular area, this subcommittee will focus on projects that approach advocacy at the level of legal reform, political lobbying, etc. Topics that may be considered include: economic empowerment, legal advocacy, professional development, business development, and micro-enterprise, among others.
  2. Health & Well-Being for Women and Girls:
    This subcommittee will review projects addressing the health and well-being of Jewish women and girls locally, nationally, and internationally. Issues related to protecting, promoting and educating about health will be considered on this docket. In addition, projects that will also be considered may include: domestic violence, shelters for battered women, drug rehabilitation programs, health and wellness programs that are gender specific, and rape crisis centers, among others.
  3. Education/Leadership Development for Women and Girls:
    This subcommittee will review projects addressing education and opportunities for Jewish women and girls to have leadership roles and develop leadership skills such as negotiation and budget analysis. This subcommittee will also review projects regarding Jewish women’s spirituality, Jewish women artists, and educational programming about Jewish women. This subcommittee will evaluate a docket that addresses these issues locally, nationally, and internationally. Projects that may be considered by this subcommittee include: teen mentoring, life skills workshops, college-age programming, empowerment training, educational conferences, and vocational training, among others.
