J-CERT Crisis Intervention

J-CertThe Jewish Community Emergency Resiliency Plan (J-CERT) helps our community respond swiftly and professionally in potential crisis situations. In today’s turbulent world, the United States continues to face the possibility of additional terrorist attacks. Sadly, the Jewish community is perceived to be particularly vulnerable. J-CERT calls for a cadre of volunteers to work in conjunction with JUF agency staff in the event of a community emergency.

J-CERT Volunteers

J-CERT volunteers provide an array of services to alleviate trauma and stress suffered as a result of terrorism or natural disaster. The ideal volunteer will be able to:

  • Follow directions;
  • Focus on the task at hand during chaotic situations;
  • Assess acute needs and work to meet them;
  • Assert himself/herself in a non-threatening way;
  • Multi-task; and
  • Possess a high degree of physical stamina.

In addition, while volunteers will not provide long-term therapeutic services to those impacted by a major catastrophe, volunteers with backgrounds in mental health and social services are especially welcome.

Application Process

Potential volunteers must fill out an application, undergo a screening process and attend a training session, which will include details about J-CERT and specific volunteer responsibilities.
